Enhance Venice’s cultural opportunities, encourage all that advances "social life" and consider churches as natural “incubators” of culture. Such are the goals of Father Natalino Bonazza’s recent cultural initiatives, planned for the upcoming months inside the church of San Salvador.
The first event is set for Saturday, March 13, the first anniversary of Ahrend’s organ and also the inception of the cultural, non-profit onlus organization "Sacred Music in the Heart of Venice." Harpsichordist, organist and conductor Gustav Leonhardt will perform at 20.30 in a concert of Renaissance and Baroque music.
Next on the agenda is an evening, on April 10, dedicated to Pope John Paul II, commemorating the fifth year of his death. At 21.00 a "chorus and orchestra oratorio”, text by Paolo Marchi and music by Lorenzo Signorini (artistic director Maurizio Mune), will be offered to the city of Venice. "It's a new composition we are initially proposing to the city but which we hope to extend to the Veneto Region and eventually across the national territory-" explains Don Natalino “–we start off with the fact that our activities are made for the Venetians, to revitalize what is culturally offered to them. I consider and see our churches as natural incubators of culture, places to be lived, where people meet and exchange ideas. Even though in Venice there are many things to see, it is much more dynamic than people often think. But such vitality needs to become more visible, perceptible and shared. What we are trying to do is create a sense of belonging, of community."
Another upcoming event, this time related to the visual arts, will be held after Easter and until the end of May. Its theme and title is "Within the Space of the Cross": twelve Venetian and Veneto artists will work with that theme in mind. The final artistic pieces will then be exhibited in San Salvador.
