Church Etiquette Guidelines: some things you should know while in Church

from Cena in Emmaus (particolare)

A church...

  1. is holy to God. Please never forget this.
  2. is a place of worship for the Christian community. If we are praying when you enter, wait for us to finish or come back later.
  3. is a house of prayer for everyone. It offers you silence and entrusts it to your sensibility. Turn off you mobile phone and pray with us.
  4. is very special and deserves respect. This is why we ask you to dress and behave appropriately, as you if you were visiting someone important.
  5. is open to everyone and especially children are welcome. Accompany your children and share the experience.
  6. is a place of art and culture to be seen and discovered. Your enjoyment can be enhanced by having someone describe it to you, explaining it quietly and with style, helping you appreciate its beauty discreetly
  7. is a place containing delicate and important works of art. Before taking photographs or videos, ask permission to do so.
  8. offers many interesting things not fully discovered yet. Be aware that not all areas are open to visitors as access may be restricted or dangerous.
  9. is an extremely delicate environment and it takes so little to ruin it. Don't take away "souvenirs" or write on walls, furniture and objects. This will help conserve it for others.
  10. is a national and world heritage. So, although it may seem at times a museum where certain rules must be observed, always remember that the Christian community welcomes you to its home.

Dear Visitor,
church etiquette is based on common sense and on showing respect for God and the people who come to worship Him.
Please help us maintain our church a place of silence and meditation.
Please avoid all behaviour disruptive to those trying to pray around you; so that, if you wish, you too may find the peacefulness required for individual or assembly prayer.
