A Pastoral Community which grows around the Basilica of  San Marco

In the Sestiere di San Marco area of Venice, besides the Cathedral Basilica, one can find the parishes of San Moisè, Santo Stefano, San Luca and San Salvador as well as the active churches of Santa Maria del Giglio, San Bartolomeo e San Zulian.

The faithful who belong and recognize themselves in these places of worship are called to walk together, sharing their common Christian experiences and living out their faith in a stronger communion and way activities of catechism, education and charity.

The Marciana pastoral community
is an open project, a social presence to be developed following and according to mons. Beniamino Pizziol's, the Vicar General, indications:

“It (the pastoral community) is not a new juridical way of organizing the pastoral reality of  single parishes. It is a new method, a new way of realizing fully the indications given by the Second Vatican Council on how to guide a parish community. For such a reason does it involve all the parishes of a diocese: each community should take on and follow such an ecclesiastical structure of a community and mission.”  (interview  in Gente Veneta 34/2007, p. 9).

The instruments of communication
are mainly two:
- this Internet site
- a news bulletin published three times a year.

The logo used by the Marciana pastoral community comes from the bend taken on by the Grand Canal as it flows from Rialto Bridge to the San Marco Basin, forming a large “C”: which can be seen as the initials of Christ, communion, cathedral…A letter which recalls in its form what is to be placed as the centre of our community.
